Looks like I blew right through April without a blog post. Whoops. (How are we almost halfway through the year already?)
We’ve had a death in the family, so the regular routine was thoroughly derailed for obvious reasons. It wasn’t a surprise–the family member was 81 and in failing health–but these things are never easy no matter how prepared you think you are.
We just got back from a week-long trip south to attend the celebration of life, and now I am back in the office and working on finishing ECLIPSE, Palladium Wars #5. I had aimed to have it done by the end of April, but life happens, and sometimes schedules get upended. But I’ve heeded the wise words of Stephen King, who said (in ON WRITING, his excellent treatise on the craft), that life isn’t a support system for art–it’s the other way around. If I need to step away from the keyboard for a bit to address important real-life events, that’s just the way it goes.
I’ll need a few weeks to edit ECLIPSE and get it ship-shape before I release it on KDP (to what I hope will be an enthusiastic reception and EXTREME sales numbers so my publisher can have proper regrets for dropping the series after Book #4), so expect that one in late June if all goes well.
Next up after that will be a new stand-alone for 47North with the working title of COHORT. I’ll let you know more about that one as soon as I can. As this is a 47North book, it will have a 2027 release date. In the meantime, please to be looking forward to the December release of CYGNUS, the third and final book in the Frontlines: Evolution series, and the best one of the whole lot as far as I’m concerned.
(That doesn’t mean I am done with Frontlines or its spin-off. Stand by for news on that subject soon-ish.)
I am very much looking forward to Cygnus. Thank you.
I just wanted to say how much I appreciate you taking the time to finish the Palladium saga. I have loved the first 4 books and would have loved to have read 8 more.
I hope it does well and that 47north suffers realizing they screwed up.
Also sorry for your loss. It is a journey we all will someday take.
Hope all goes well and you continue to turn out your excellent novels.
Condolences to you for your loss Marko. Very excited for Eclipse and I hope it’s not the end of that world, as I’ve truly enjoyed the story & the worldbuilding.
I already preordered Cygnus on December 13th. Nice that you dont use AI-covers like many other MilSciFi-authors.
Still waiting on that “Palladium Wars” COOKBOOK though!!
Sorry for your family’s loss.
Cygnus ordered.
Ah, Cygnus is up for preorder.
Done.
I know audiobooks are an additional expense but I also wanted to say that audiobook is my primary method of consuming books (I have problems that make reading printed books difficult) and if possible I’d love to see Eclipse in audio format. I’d even be willing to donate a couple of thousand toward the production if you wanted to donations toward that.
I am so sorry to hear about your loss, stay strong Marko.
Two questions regarding your next PW book:
1) Since you will be self publishing, will we see the book on Audible? It’s the main way I consume your literature.
2) If the book is on Audible, will the “New voice actor for every book” situation be resolved. The change in every book has been quite jarring, especially with very prevalent varying of quality in voice acting.
Thanks and stay strong!
Take care of yourself and your family at this difficult time.
Sorry for your loss Marko. My best regards to you and your family.
Glad to hear about the upcoming books. Like you said life happens and that needs your attention first.
Take care.
I am New to your work and enjoy enjoying the heck out of frontlines so far. I have read a ton of sci-fi And have found your writings to be extraordinarily compelling.
Very sorry for your loss, hang tough. We will appreciate any of your new books whenever you can get to them.
Looking forward to Eclipse. I am starting my reread of the series in anticipation. (And relished to the audio versions as I notice different things when listening).
My sympathies to you and your family.
My sympathies for the loss of a family member. Life moves forward and we have to move with it.
I’m excited for the books to be released. Thank you for the update.
sorry man! Keep the faith and appreciate your work!
When are you going to finish Frontlines? I read book 8 a couple of years ago and have been waiting for Book 9. I have no interest in reading other series from an author who just decides to drop a series without completing previous works.
Book 8 was the final book in the original Frontlines series. And holy cow, check your tone there. Do you think I’d spend ten years of my life to write an eight-book series and then just decide on a whim that I want to drop the whole thing? Right now I’m writing book 5 in a series which my publisher dropped after book 4 just so I get to finish the story and don’t leave the fans hanging.
Well, I’m here to say I’ve re-read the Frontlines series and it is excellent, and it completes Grayson and Halley’s arc. Their story is over, but that’s not the same as the universe has ended, as evinced by te Evolution trilogy, and whatever else comes int he future.
BTW: I got Aftershocks, and your Palladium War series grabbed my by the throat and I consumed all four book within a week. What a ride. And, here’s to a pox on 47North.
And, finally. Sorry for you loss. I was so angry at the previous commentator I had to say something.
Thanks Marko! I think some of us are at least hoping for a reveal about what makes the Lankies tick…
To be fair I just realized Book 8 was supposed to be the final book O_o
I mean…NOTHING indicates that it is? The biggest plot point is still unresolved in multiple ways. And again, reading the final pages of Book 8 at no point did I think “well thats the final book”
chill
sorry for your loss.
can’t wait for the next Frontlines book
My condolences for your loss. It’s never easy in any circumstance. Looking forward the final bill in the Palladium series. Appreciate the update.
We’re just grateful for ANYTHING from the best SciFi write on the planet. SOOOO…
WHENEVER you finish *anything*, lettuce no and we will all jump all over it.
Life happens. I do appreciate the update. Frontlines remains one of my favorites. If there are no more Lankies forthcoming, I can always go back and reread the series ( for the fourth or fifth time).
I can tell you with 100% certainty that there are in fact more Lankies forthcoming.
That’s both A Good Thing and A Bad Thing…
Condolences for your loss Marko.
