Minions! I have news for you. You will like these news if you’re the kind of person who likes good Frontlines news.

Item the first: 47North has bought my next THREE NOVELS in one package deal. This will mean a.) two more Frontlines books after CHAINS OF COMMAND, and b.) a new book that will start a new military SF series. It also means that if I can keep the schedule, you will see two new Frontlines novels in 2016.

Item the second: CHAINS OF COMMAND is done and about to go off to the editor. I’m guessing this will mean an April release again, but do check the pre-order page on Amazon for updated publication dates. I’m very happy with the way it turned out, and I think you will like it as well.

Item the third: I’ve started work on Frontlines #5, and it will be titled FIELDS OF FIRE.

The new book deal means that I have my dance card full for the next year and a half, but it also means that I won’t have to worry about my writing income for that year and a half. All in all, it’s good news for me and good news for those of you who like the Frontlines series.

Anyway. Onward! Deadlines to be met, fictional spaceships to be blown up, and weird-ass eighty-foot aliens to be battled to the death.

I love seeing the covers of foreign editions of my novels. Here’s the cover of the Japanese edition (published by Hayakawa), which apparently went on sale on May 25th already:

According to a Japanese friend, the title translates to “Enlisting For A Space Soldier”, which is one heck of a lot more accurate than the translation that Google gave me at first. It has a few reviews on Amazon in Japan already, and they’re very positive, which makes me happy:

“Interesting SF novel for the first time in many years. Looking forward to the following translations”; and “Great details about the army things which we can’t know from our secretive Self-Defense Forces. And good translation!”

The “Frontlines” series has been retitled as “Alien Wars” by Heyne, and the subtitle “Planetenjagd” means “planet hunt”. I am pleased that I finally have my very own Heyne novel with laser-firing spaceships on the cover. IT’S A CHILDHOOD DREAM COME TRUE.

There are translations into Polish and Czech in the works as well, and I can’t wait to see the covers for those. It’s still a little surreal to see my name on the covers of foreign translations when the first Frontlines book went on sale only just a little over two years ago on the Kindle store in the United States.

Hey, kids!

Amazon has my first two novels, Terms of Enlistment and Lines of Departure, on sale as the Kindle Daily Deal in Science Fiction today for a measly $1.99 a copy. That’s, like, less than two bucks!

And if you already own those books on your Kindelmaschine, but you have a friend or three you want to introduce to the Frontlines books, today would be a good day to do it, seeing how LESS THAN TWO BUCKS. Why, that wouldn’t buy you anything but a pitying look from the barista with the tongue stud at that trendy coffee shop on the way to work!

First post at the new domain! WOO!

This is markokloos.com, which is almost exactly like the old munchkinwrangler.com except with a new address and a snazzier header image (which was designed for me by my friend Erica, who is super-talented and an altogether awesome human being.)

Now I just need to have time to add more content to this blog thingy again. Currently wrapping up “Chains of Command”, #4 in the Frontlines series, and if things go as they usually do after finishing a novel, my brain will be tapioca for a few weeks after I turn this thing in. On the plus side, it’s a pretty kick-ass novel, I think. Keep your calendars clear for some more Space Kablooie action later this year!

 

 

lovely “angles of attack” review.

Claire Thorne at Fanboy Comics has written my favorite review of “Angles of Attack” so far (and one of my favorite general “Frontlines” series reviews). It’s a very perceptive and detailed review, and you should go over there and read it. She has kept it mostly spoiler-free, for those who haven’t read Angles yet, and she really gets what I am doing with the story in general and Andrew in particular.

I only have to correct her on one minor detail: Frontlines is not a trilogy. I had planned it as one, but things got a little bigger than expected, and there will be at the very least a fourth book (called “Chains of Command”), and maybe more.

I don’t care how many books I’ll write in the future—opening that box and looking at the printed version for the first time is never going to get old. I feel like nerdy George McFly at the end of Back to the Future every time. You know, that scene where he gets his author copies of “A Match Made In Space”?

I’m still extremely busy writing “Chains of Command”, Frontlines #4, so you can all get it on your Kindles and eye-pods and eight-tracks and what-not before Christmas. It’s shaping up to be a really fun ride, and I think you’ll enjoy it. It is my personal opinion that Angles of Attack is the best Frontlines yet, and that Chains of Command may turn out even better. But I am, of course, heavily biased.

vermont tales of adventure!

imageI’ll be reading at Vemont Tales of Adventure! In White River Junction on February 27th. The event is organized by Geek Mountain State as part of their Vermont Speculative Fiction Writers series. I am not a Vermonter, but we are sitting right on the border, so maybe I’ll be able to pass as one of their own.

I’ll most likely read something from “Angles of Attack”, which won’t be out until April, so if you would like to get a sneak peek and live in the general area, you should come.

Great news, people of Earth!

Contracts are signed, so I am free to share the news.

1.) There will officially be a fourth Frontlines novel.
2.) It will be called “Chains of Command”.
3.) If all goes well, it will be out THIS YEAR, which means you’ll get two new Frontlines novels in 2015. (Angles of Attack will be released on April 15th, and Chains of Command has a tentative release date of November if all goes according to plan and I don’t overshoot my deadline WHICH I WON’T, HONEST.)

So there you have it. 47North has bought Frontlines #4, “Chains of Command”, and I am doing my best to get it to you before this holiday season so you can all put it on your Christmas Kindles.

If you live in the UK, you may be interested in the current Amazon UK deal, which has forty novels discounted to one of your English pounds of currency. Terms of Enlistment and Lines of Departure are included in that deal, so if you don’t have your own copies yet, here’s a chance to get them at half the regular price. One measly pound! Why that won’t buy you a…. uh, whatever it is that costs two quid over there. The sale will go on through the month of February.

Also, I’ll have some EXCITING NEWS to share regarding the Frontlines series pretty soon. (No, not a movie deal. No, not a Literature Nobel nomination.) I’ll need to let the ink dry and get the official word before I blab, though.
